Outreach Officer
I am leading on the development, delivery and evaluation of a targeted programme of widening participation events and activities for children, young people and adults at target schools and colleges in the South West. This work directly contributes to the targets, milestones and priority areas outlined in the University’s Access and Participation Plan with the Office for Students, and aims to increase applications from students from backgrounds under-represented within the Marjon student body.The main responsibilities include;• To lead on the development, delivery and evaluation of a targeted programme of online and face-to-face widening participation events and activities for children, young people and adults at target schools and colleges in the South West. This programme to include: Children’s University activities, a new Marjon Scholars Programme,• To make a significant contribution to the targets and milestones outlined in the University’s Access and Participation Plan with the Office for Students.• To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the University’s outreach activity and supply regular written reports to the Head of Student Recruitment & Outreach, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Success) and to the Access & Participation Action Group.• To manage the annual budget for widening participation activities.• To continuously enhance knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing children, young people, and adults from under-represented groups in accessing higher education, staying informed and up-to-date on government policy and the research outputs from key organisations• To draw upon HEAT data for the monitoring and evaluation of outreach activities, and to inform the design and development of subsequent projects.• To act as the lead trainer for outreach activities involving student ambassadors and to support the delivery of generic student ambassador skills and safeguarding training.
