Developed a statistical based Background Metals Protocols for a RCRA and private cleanup projects. These Protocols have been used to established site-specific background metal concentrations for the soils consistent with State (DTSC) and Federal (US EPA) guidance. As a result the site-specific background metal concentrations have been used to evaluate site status, i.e., Remediation or No Further Action and in some cases were used to establish site-specific soil cleanup goals that are greater than risk-based screening levels, Updated and verified the site-specific background by using updated analysis techniques in an attempt to differentiate arsenic species within the soil, including the use of computer-controlled scanning electron microscopy (CCSEM). Evaluated site-specific bioattenuation indicator data (e.g. total petroleum hydrocarbons-gasoline range organics and diesel range organics, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and methane) to demonstrate the likelihood of biodegradation activity of fuel-related petroleum hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds in soil. Coordinated the statistical analysis efforts, including near real-time analysis of the 95 percent upper confidence limits for arsenic data collected via a definitive methodology utilizing an XRF analyzer. The real-time collection and subsequent statistical analysis is an efficient use of the triad approach and provides the client and stakeholders with regulatory quality decision making data within days of field mobilization. Applied U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) VLEACH software to model mobilization and migration of volatile and semi-volatile constituents in the vadose zone for impacts to groundwater.
