In this position I performed linear and non linear FEA analysis for a variety of clients, using a variety of tools including Ansys, MSC Patran/Nastran, and MSC Mentat/MARC. These projects included large steel structures, plasticity, and hyperelastic modeling. As lead powertrain engineer I performed gear and bearing analysis using MASTA. Using this tool, I designed gears for a variety of products, analyzed bearing stresses and life, and performed full system analyses that included FE stiffness components.

I worked in house as a structural engineer and on site at Caterpillar working in the gear group as a gearbox simulation engineer.On site at Caterpillar I used Hypermesh to create FE stiffness matrices and Romax designer to create gear and bearing system models. Using these two programs a stress based bearing life can be obtained and gear contact patterns can be ascertained and optimized. Prior to moving onsite, I performed structural analysis using Abaqus and Hypermesh for a variety of clients in the construction and mining industries.
