Led and managed the talented engineering team behind Classy’s flagship product suite, a fundraising platform that transitioned from monolithic architecture to a modern microservices design powered by React, AngularJS, GraphQL, ElasticSearch, and Laravel.Key responsibilities and achievements:- Accountable for engineering team output, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to execute on the product roadmap.- Contributed to feature development, including code for major launches and architectural enhancements.- Improved unit and integration testing techniques in JavaScript codebases as a mentor for best practices. Included training sessions, demo presentations, pair coding, pull request feedback, and the implementation of test tooling.- Owned analytics integrations: Google Analytics, Heap, and Google Tag Manager.- Contributed to dev team staffing by writing job postings, creating tech screen templates, conducting phone screens, and leading onsite panel interviews.- Streamlined onboarding for engineers.- Developed reusable libraries using React, Apollo, Jest, GraphQL, and Node. Two examples were a Design System UI component library and an authorization library meant to make feature development easier and more consistent.- Drove the rebuild of Classy’s major fundraising campaign tools using Node, AngularJS, Mongo, Karma, and Jasmine, resulting in an 18% increase in donation conversion rates.- Led refactors of Node services, significantly improving server response times and cutting P1 bugs in half.- Crafted classy-node, a public Node SDK for Classy’s Giving API. Foundational for dozens of internal and external products.- Enhanced JavaScript reliability with modern linting and static type checking tools.- Collaborated with DevOps to devise a user-friendly build and deploy process using Terraform, Docker, Travis CI, and AWS.- Led overhaul of marketing site using AngularJS, PHP, Bourbon/Neat, and Hubspot during rebrand from StayClassy to Classy.

As an individual contributor I led the development of many of the company's most significant initiatives during a period of rapid growth and technical evolution. As we transitioned from a monolith to microservices I set the foundation for the user-facing web product, working with other talented engineers to create a JavaScript-based architecture where user experience and quality were paramount. This architecture, which powers Classy's core web product today, has now scaled to process over $500M/year in transactions. In this role I held brown bags to introduce new technologies, presented roadmap progress at company all hands meetings, conducted technical screens for new hire candidates, coached and onboarded these new hires once they joined the team, and implemented best practices across the engineering organization.
