I handle e-discovery obligations in civil litigation, regulatory actions, and internal corporate investigations. I plan and coordinate the review of all the millions of documents at issue in a case, including review for relevance to production requests, privilege, and substantive content to aid in fact development. I manage large and small teams of contract attorneys to efficiently review each document as accurately and consistently as possible. I also work with associates and partners to identify the key documents in the case, draft written discovery responses, prepare for depositions, and create privilege logs, chronologies, and exhibit lists for motions and trial.

Much Shelist is a firm devoted to helping businesses through the full range of legal issues they face, from mergers and acquisitions to real estate leasing and financing to disputes with other businesses or employees. In this spirit, Much Shelist began its apprentice program to create well-rounded attorneys familiar with every area of law affecting businesses. I was hired as an apprentice with the understanding that I would spend one year taking work from any practice area in the firm before joining the litigation and dispute resolution group. During my apprentice year, I researched and wrote memos and motions and drafted and answered discovery requests - everything a first year litigation associate does. But I also worked on real estate transactions, drafted a form lease for a large landlord, and reviewed contracts as part of due diligence before corporate transactions closed. At the end of my apprentice year I joined the litigation group as planned. But my experience with other fields of law has proved invaluable - nearly all business disputes arise from transactions gone wrong, and it is immensely important to understand the underlying transaction to properly advocate once litigation begins.

As an attorney-law clerk with the Buildings and License Enforcement Division, I prosecuted building, health, and safety code violations in administrative proceedings. But prosecuting was only a small part of the job. For property owners and managers, the City's ordinances can be confusing and at times onerous. But the City's ultimate goal is to keep its citizens safe, and its law department recognizes that simply punishing property owners with fines does not achieve that goal. So my job as an attorney-law clerk was to work with property owners to fix dangerous conditions, and assess whether fines would be helpful to prod reluctant owners into compliance.Attorney-law clerks in Administrative Hearings/Buildings are fully-licensed attorneys who act in the same capacity as assistant corporation counsels, but are generally recent law school graduates. The attorney-law clerk position is not intended to be permanent. It is more like an internship, giving young attorneys valuable experience working with property owners and practicing before an administrative law judge. I learned a great deal in my short time in Administrative Hearings before I began my apprenticeship with Much Shelist.
