About Matthew Shea
After returning to school to finish a degree in IT in 2016, I landed in the IT department of an alcoholic beverage distribution company with an extensive materials handling automation system. The original intent of my position was to maintain & improve the that system, which consisted of equipment from Siemens, Fanuc, Sage, Webb, and more. But due to age & cost, the system extensively downsized and I was re-purposed to support & manage the company's IBM iSeries database server for the VIP Beverage bookkeeping system. This included DB2 SQL query writing and custom applications in Microsoft Access & Excel, with copious amounts of custom VB. I'm currently enjoying these task very much.In general, I'm a technical pocket knife. A jack of many trades, master of some. I'm intelligent and highly technically inclined, with a wide array of skills in IT, programming, networking, analog & digital electronics, professional audio, video, FM radio transmitters, RF, satellite, CCTV, access control systems, sound recording, live sound, theatrical & dance club lighting, residential & commercial electrical, commercial & industrial automation systems, and even some of the basics like HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and automotive & small engine repair. I also have some offbeat hobbies, such as recirculating aquatic water management systems, which means aquarium filtration setups from a single tank to hundreds of tanks as one would see in a large aquarium shoppe.

Ibm Iseries As400 Db2 Sql Database Manager & Vb Application Programmer
CurrentI'm currently the in-house DBA & application programmer for an alcoholic beverage distribution company. The original intent was to maintain & improve a materials handling & automation system with equipment by Siemens-Dematic, Fanuc Robotics, Sage, and Jervis Webb. But due to rising maintenance costs, those systems were removed and my work moved to supporting a private IBM iSeries server for the VIP route accounting system. This included DB2 SQL query writing, and custom applications in Microsoft Access & Excel, with generous amounts of advanced VBA, and some Visual Studio.
Student Of Information Technology, Java Programming, And Oracle Pl/Sql
I'm listing this this as work experience because being a full-time student IS work, and I treat it as such. I'm enrolled in the Information Technology program, with a specialization in the officially accredited Oracle SQL Academy. My classes have been an even split between Oracle SQL database management and computer programming, with classes in SQL, PLSQL, Microsoft Access, Java, and the full version of Visual Basic .Net in Visual Studio 2012. I graduated in December 2016 with an AAS in IT.
Broadcast Technician & It Support
This was my first step crossing the line from radio to television. Aside form lots of learning, the work was much the same as my previous positions in radio. This was operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of all systems, from the studios to the rack rooms to the transmitter sites. This included audio, video, television & radio transmitters, cameras, studio lighting systems, backup generators, servers, desktops, studio equipment, and taking readings from all transmitter systems for the FCC & FAA information retention requirements.
Chief Engineer & It Manager
I was a one-man department for this radio cluster with 7 FM stations and 5 HD channels. There were 9 studios, 5 brand names, and 7 transmitter sites spread across a territory 25 miles tall and 50 miles wide. I managed many projects, such as the complete replacement of the entire Nexgen system and all of its servers & workstations in every studio, new backup generator installations, new transmitter equipment, new Burk remote controls, and much more. And all this with 24/7/365 on-call duty. This facility is uncommon because the building was company-owned and single-occupant, rather than leased space in an office building as so many other broadcasters do. This meant my work also included regular building maintenance issues as well, such as HVAC repair and electrical work.
Studio Integration Contractor
This was a project to transform WNEW-FM into a news radio station, with the hope of taking a bite out of WTOP, the king of US news radio. Conceptually, it was a clone of WCBS-FM in New York, with changes to suit the DC market. Physically, it was a build-out of unused office space downstairs from the rest of the CBS radio studios.
Staff Engineer & It Support
This was a small radio company owned by Dan Snyder, who also owns the Washington Redskins. There were four AM stations, one of them being 50-kilowatts. The company's primary purpose was to distribute the Redskins games via radio and satellite. On game days I was the in-studio engineer, to support the broadcasts in case anything went awry.
Staff Engineer & It Support
I relocated to Seattle to take the #2 engineering position at this major FM-radio cluster. I immediately addressed problems with satellite automation, and then installed a turnkey webcasting system for one of the morning shows. It was the first full-quality live video stream installed at any CBS radio station, and it was successful enough to became the company standard. A personal highlight of this gig was the planning, setup, & production of the entire 3-day broadcast of the 2008 Chevrolet Cup Hydroplane Races at the 2008 Seattle Seafair festival on KPTK-AM. Steve Montgomery, known as “the voice of the hydroplanes”, said it was the best-sounding production of the races that he’d ever heard.
Staff Engineer & It Support
The Entercom Radio facility in Buffalo had 7 stations, 28 studios, and over 100 employees. The backend facilities consisted of 22 racks of server, audio, automation, and telecom equipment, a 10kw UPS, a 250kw backup generator, a satellite yard with multiple dishes, and six transmitter sites spread across three counties. There were three fully equipped broadcast trucks for remote broadcasts, a branded giant “boom box” on an airport scissor-truck chassis, and over a dozen promotions vehicles. My work was to maintain any and all of this. I found outlets for all of my skills and talents, and the main course of my career began. I was one of 6 full-time engineers on staff to keep it all running, even with 24/7 on-call duty. I also engineered thousands of remote broadcasts, for the likes of Buffalo Sabres NHL Hockey, Dragonfly Nightclub, and the multi-day radiothons for Children's Hospital and Erie County SPCA.
Technical Support Specialist
I started this position as a Level 1 support agent and left as a Level 4 support specialist. The work required me to know literally everything about the products. I was responsible for support of all versions of WordPerfect and all accompanying programs & utilities. I also did bug testing & documentation, and write-ups for the online support database. The job required me to listen and communicate clearly with customers over the phone. On a few occasions, I received awards for customer letters that were mailed to the company to thank me for a job well done. In a world where the norm was complaint letters, thank-you letters were nearly unheard of.
