I have spent the better part of 10 years working in mental health promotion, substance abuse prevention, and wellness education. I have a strong background in facilitating evidence and research-based programs including topics on suicide prevention, school and intimate partner violence, and sexual health education. As a firm believer in building relationships and leveraging those connections to build community, I have managed to serve on a variety of multidisciplinary teams including regional coalitions, family assessment planning teams, and chaired several city-wide taskforces. My commitment to working with the LGBTQ community stems from my understanding that being black is something that is often misunderstood or feared just as being gay can sometimes incite hatred and promote caution. However, it wasn’t until I accepted my blackness and my gayness that I could truly thrive. So, outside of work, I became incredibly active with the LGBTQ+ community. I currently serve in several leadership capacities for queer centered organizations like Stonewall Sports – Richmond, Diversity Richmond, and Virginia Pride. Having worked for community service boards, with various school systems, and local government agencies, I come with a diverse work experience and combined with my community experience I am excited to use those skills to better serve LGBTQ+ youth and families.
