I am extremely grateful for the privilege of being a doctor and entrusted with the care and wellbeing of others in our community. Though the field is complex and the work is daunting, the team approach involves individuals in every role who are truly inspiring. I am fortunate to work as a clinician that focuses on system level changes which can have meaningful impact on larger groups of people who may be underrepresented or even marginalized. Though my Internal Medicine career started as a PCP, it has largely been focused on being a Hospitalist & SNFist. I was awarded the distinction of Senior Fellow in Hospital Medicine (SFHM) from the Society of Hospital Medicine for work in improving the quality of patient care and serving as Co-President of the LA Chapter. The first job I held had tremendous influence on my professional trajectory with exposure to having broader accountability for patient care and outcomes. I was with HealthCare Partners (Optum) in LA for over 13 years, culminating with responsibilities for Acute and Post-Acute Care services for the LA North Region and Regional Med Dir for Group and IPA operations in the San Fernando Valley. During this time, I also co-founded a private hospitalist/intensivist company in LA with a successful exit to Sound Inpatient Physicians. Having expertise in value-based care and delegated global risk models, I was hired as a physician consultant with GE Healthcare’s Camden Group and Team Catalyst, the healthcare consulting arm of DaVita. At its founding in 2016, agilon health recruited me to be the National Medical Director where I also served in operational roles such as the California Market President; leaving post IPO in 2021. I continue to work as an advisor to start-ups and a consultant to organizations wanting to optimize their services to care for the entire person, not just the disease condition. Coming from very humble beginnings, I believe in community service and the need to address the social determinants of health. I am proud to sit on the Governing Boards of a non-profit organization which focuses on SDOH, Partners In Care Foundation (PICF).
