Michael Meth is a Dean, University Library at San Jose State University. He possess expertise in leadership, research, strategic planning, data analysis, team leadership and 20 more skills. He is proficient in German and English. Colleagues describe him as "I worked with Mike Meth during his time as Associate Dean of Libraries at Florida State University. Mike’s congenial and helpful manner and his extensive experience in library and academic administration at Florida State and previously at the University of Toronto made him a valuable resource to tap as we planned and launched the FSU Innovation Hub (www.innovation.fsu.edu). I sought Mike’s advice on numerous occasions regarding issues related to HR management, facility operations, building security, and other high-level challenges. He helped guide me in my role as founding director, with 40 staff members, and served as a much-appreciated sounding board as we considered new and cutting edge services. Mike is an innovator and entrepreneur. I connected with Mike on topics related to blockchain technology in its early days. He was the first I know of to leveraged blockchain technologies for library resources and transactions. It wasn’t just blockchain that captured his imagination. He is well versed in many new and emerging technologies. He is always considering new applications and ventures. Over the years, I have witnessed Mike’s interactions with all levels of students, staff, faculty, and administrators at FSU. Mike received high praise from his students in annual reviews during his time teaching for me. He always treats others with a high level of respect and empathy, and is more conscientious of inclusion and equity across gender, race, culture and sexual identity than anyone I know. He always makes an effort to serve and assist however he is able. This life practice of his is demonstrated not only across campus, but also in his expansive community service. We miss Mike at FSU and wish him all the best as he grows his experience and impact.
