Short CV: Monique van Kerkhof has returned to the Netherlands, Maastricht, since 2012, after living abroad most of her life. She worked as a cultural entrepreneur and in visual/performing arts in cities as Barcelona, New York and Tokyo, She created projects in Egypt, Tunisia, Macedonia and West Africa.Monique started her own company MONDESIGN as a cultural entrepreneur and in visual and performing arts in Tokyo since 2002.Born in Nijmegen, Holland. Most of her youth she lived in Maastricht, she moved to Amsterdam at an age of 17 and got involved in Modern Dance. She left for Spain, when 22 years old to study Spanish and continuing dancing in Barcelona at ‘La Fabrica’. In 1985 she moved to New York City studying at the ‘Alvin Nikolais Dance School’ and at the ‘Merce Cunningham Studio’ (She received a scholarship from Merce Cunningham)PRESS RELEASEDuring the Realtime International Film Festival in Lagos, Nigeria, a production by the Dutch artist Monique van Kerkhof in the category of music films was voted the best.The short film "Follow Me Down Again" by Monique van Kerkhof is an adaptation of dance fragments and street recordings. Most of them were recorded during the dress rehearsal for a spectacular dance performance during the museum night in 2016 in Bookstore Dominicanen. The film was produced last year 2018.and 2 winning prizes have been awarded in Bombay as "award winner of best film director and best film". In addition, her film team received five nominations. Her film has been nominated 30 times so far, including Hollywood New Directors Film Festival in London, Amsterdam and Moscow. Monique van Kerkhof has developed into a multidisciplinary artist. In addition to choreography, she is also involved with film, music, dance, theater, installations, graphic design and product design in which an impressive oeuvre has been built up.Her dance performance and short film "Follow Me Down Again" are inspired by the mythology of Icarus. About life enthusiasm and risk; trial and error whereby a connection is made with the quote "Hell is the place where nothing connects" by writer T.S Eliot. Monique van de Kerkhof on this: “life consists of falling and getting up again and again. Who gets up again, connects with people. When you are no longer connected to people, life is like hell ”. The music in the film was composed by Monique and performed in collaboration with students from the Maastricht Conservatory.
