At HOS, my role as statistician focuses on building customized predictive models derived from advances in clinical research that can be translated into decision support tools disseminated into clinical practice to enhance patient care and health outcomes.As a China specialist with an interest in health services research, my dissertation addresses issues of equity, healthcare reform and economic development in the People’s Republic of China. The aim of this study is to test the broad hypothesis that economic reforms have resulted in greater inter-regional inequality in health status, access to and utilization of health services overtime. In general, health status, access and utilization vary by location and are a consequence of reforms and the marketization of healthcare in China. The analysis in this study describes the extent to which these disparities are accounted for by material circumstances, urban/rural effects and socio-economic characteristics measured at the individual and community levels.
