I worked with Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) employees and students to develop a method for automating the characterization of fibrous material at the nanometer and micrometer scales. During this role, I:-Independently operated a scanning electron microscope several times a month to produce various micrographs for analysis-Developed Python-based image-processing code to construct composite images from various micrographs-Developed scripting code (using the ImageJ software) to automate image-analysis of composite micrographs-Presented personal research on image analysis techniques at the 5th Annual SCSU Undergraduate Research Conference

I worked with Dr. Finch to develop a C++ program that analyzes data collected from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). Specifically, the program reconstructed lambda particle tracks from Au+Au collisions in order to determine their helicities. Ultimately, this information could be used to probe the nature of the strong interaction. During this role, I: -Was granted personal access to data collected from the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR) within BNL through remote SSH sessions-Collaborated with other researchers working at BNL to help in code development and in learning how to navigate the dynamic, linux based, computer system
