Currently, we enhance the data capturing with state of the art AI methods leveraging proprietary internal AI models and external start-ups. - Business Reporting, providing live data driven insights into Swiss Re's underwriting performance- Data Curation, responsible for a collaborative data lab environment where the whole of Corporate Solutions shares derived/curated data, valuable libraries and machine learning models

My unit is in charge of providing global analytical and actuarial services to Swiss Re's business units across all products. We link our internal business data with external market data and build predictive models on top of this data. We ensure consistency of the rating and costing methodology across Swiss Re Group and act as a data driven strategic controller for the Business Units. The team has a global footprint and comprises 7 internal FTEs in Zurich, 9 in Bangalore and 2-3 M$ in external spend per year for programmers from 4 external companies in a variety of locations. We are responsible for the following key areas. ● Data-driven steering and valuation. Centralized implementation of Swiss Re's economic valuation on a deal-by-deal basis in P&C Underwriting. A large portion of the risks underwritten by Swiss Re has to be valued using our the infrastructure of our unit. Hence, we ensure consistent valuation and full data capturing. ● GIS: we provide the master data source for geographic data within Swiss Re, mainly administrative and natural peril data. In addition to that, we drive established and new GEO-based projects (CatNet). We use ESRI and open source technology to achieve our goals. ● Predictive analytics: we build a group-wide ontology based on internal and external data. We use state of the art feature engineering to create predictive models based on our unique, granular, group-wide data access to all risks pools Swiss Re is underwriting.

The unit is in charge of providing global analytical and actuarial services to all product divisions, to harmonize the rating and costing methodology by aligning it with the overall Swiss Re Group steering framework based on EVM and to develop and maintain global tools and the tool infrastructure. The ultimate goal is to help underwriters and pricing actuaries to efficiently underwrite the business (structuring, costing), to provide Client Markets with the information needed for decision making on a deal-by-deal level and to provide management with the information needed to manage risk and to steer the business. The team comprises four areas of responsibility: ● Costing principles: Implementation of Economic Value Valuation on a deal-by-deal basis in P&C Underwriting, Portfolio Analytics, maintaining all default assumptions for valuation and loss cost estimation as well as capturing all key economics and exposure measures ● Analytical Services Credit: Swiss Re group wide support for Credit Underwriting across the reinsurance and direct business units providing methods, parameters, costing tools and transactional support for the more complex transactions ● Geo Services: Swiss Re's GEOdatabase is the master data source for geographic data within Swiss Re, it is comprised of administrative and natural peril data. The GEOservice team supports new and existing applications/tools with required geographic data, updates and datasets. ● Information Management: improving the information landscape along the value chain by focusing on three pillars: information structure, information quality and information usage.

Portfolio Analysis: Annual re-evaluation of the whole traditional P&C in-force book with changed assumptions (parameters, methods), permitting for educated management decisions Risk Decomposition: Scenario based simulation assessing the impact of externally observable economic changes on all P&C liabilities of Swiss ReCasualty: Trend Project with the goal to harmonize Swiss Re’s global approach on how to incorporate severity and frequency trend into costing based on macroeconomic observationsReference Data Service: Business lead for the hosting of all centrally stored parameters for costing traditional P&C business. With these parameters, over 10 B$ of premium are quoted annually.
