About Matt Alvarez-Nissen
I am a Research Manager at the California Housing Partnership, a private nonprofit organization dedicated to helping government and nonprofit housing agencies. I provide support to the Partnership's policy and research efforts through data analysis and program evaluation. Prior to the Partnership, I was an urban planner at Dyett & Bhatia, with a focus on housing policy and programs. I acted as the lead planner on housing element updates for several California cities - including Oakland, Carson, and San Pablo.I graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Urban Studies and an M.A. in Public Policy, where I completed a self-designed concentration in "Urban Data Science." I am interested in using data science to better understand the urban landscape, including housing, gentrification, and economic & racial justice. My particular focus is on the intersection between people and policy, and creating positive relationships between city residents and the institutions that govern everyday life.
