Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Department• End-to-end processing of microbiome samples for 16S and ITS next-generation sequencing (NGS) on the Illumina MiSeq platform; including barcoding and building DNA libraries on an average of 800 samples each week.• Whole-genome sequencing library preparation for the Illumina HiSeq platform.• Mycoplasma detection through quantitative PCR (qPCR) from cell pellet and supernatant samples.• Isolation and extraction of microbial and fungal samples for sequencing identification.• Employing the Kaizen method to improve equipment preventative maintenance procedures and issues as a member of the Preventative Maintenance & Housekeeping subcommittee.

• Perform manual or instrument based (Tecan Promega, QiaSymphony, Kingfisher) DNA and RNA extraction from whole blood, buccal swabs, and nasopharyngeal swabs. • Prepare samples for RT-PCR to be used in viral and bacterial genetic interpretation on the Luminex MAGPIX.• Mutational analysis using extracted DNA from both whole blood and tumor cells on the QuantStudio and Rotor-Gene Q.• Create quality control material and establish new QC ranges. Carry out lot-to-lot verification.• Manage department inventory and work with the Materials department to secure stock and meet demand as supply constraints continue.• Records management duties include Iron Mountain storage and retrieval, periodic review of quality control data to ensure compliance with CAP standards and managing up to date reagent logs.• Monitor freezer units and flag issues to our QI and Facilities teams to ensure contents maintain stability.• Communicate with project managers to ensure patient samples are processed appropriately and within established stability and turnaround times.• Adopted additional responsibilities within the Immunology department on the serum/urine protein electrophoresis bench and trained new staff on the workflow of the Sebia Hydrasys and Capillarys.• Subject Matter Expert for the ongoing LIMS conversion to a new sitewide system.
