Our office provides support for students interested in math and science majors and career fields from the recruitment process and throughout their first year at the University of Houston. I manage a leadership program for over 60 students to support academic success and student development. Our mission is to create community through programs and events, give freshmen the tools they need to develop a strong academic foundation, and support student success in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.• Mentor over 60 student leaders in a multi-faceted student engagement program including peer mentorship, community outreach, and recruitment programming• Develop virtual and in-person strategies to increase academic success and retention• Teach for-credit courses to over 100 students in soft-skill development and goal setting• Report student success initiatives and progress to college deans and their advisory boards• Plan and execute large-scale professional retreats to solidify mission goals and leadership skills for a diverse student population• Design and implement communication strategy for over 1,000 incoming STEM majors • Analyze performance data and survey students to develop initiatives to meet executive goals• Manage annual budget for the Office of First-Year Programs and college activities• Build strong professional relationships with key stakeholders of the educational community• Manage and support staff and internship positions for the Office of First-Year Programs• Serve on multiple hiring committees across campus to ensure staffing needs are met

• Sole advisor for over 2,400 Biology and Biochemistry students at UH-main campus• Introduced social media calendars for the advising office’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram pages• Created People Soft data programs to identify struggling students and developed communication plan to help over 1,200 students stay on track academically• Developed a Change of Major resource webpage for UH students and staff

• Coordinate all on campus recruiting events, totaling over 400 annually• Organize and lead more than 200 orientation sessions for all new students• Collaborate with Academic Advising to improve services offered in the Welcome Center• Plan and implement successful recruiting initiatives to suit changing student needs• Coach and train Student Ambassadors using self-developed training program• Member of multiple task forces to implement and improve ‘Welcome Week’ and other events geared toward new students and support systems• Nominated for Iowa’s Admissions Professional of the Year—one of six nominations across all institutions
