About Manning Zhang
My name is Manning Zhang, a PhD student in sociology and health social policy, a creative problem-solver, a native mandarin speaker, a quick learner, and an all-time doer. I seek to apply the “meaning-making” knowledge that I acquire in the sociology of culture to the solutions of real-world health puzzles.As a sociologist PhD student, I am aware that the majority of my research aims to ask good questions, and then analyze them, with certain types of methods: quantitative, qualitative or a mix of both. But what about the solutions? Fortunately, the second part of my joint PhD degree, health social policy at Heller School, Brandeis University, impressively equips me with a policy perspective, and allows me to see the "forest" and the "trees" at the same time. While my expertise is mainly doing research work in academia, I am enthusiastically looking for work opportunities in the industry, such as UX research, to enable myself to see more creative options in terms of problem-solving. To me, opportunities are embedded in uncertainties. And I am fully convinced that solutions always outnumber problems.
