I’ve only ever had one job…My journey to becoming the C.E.O. of Group Imperial began all the way back in 1974. I was born and bred a stone’s throw away from The Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd, and I was there the day that the mighty factory closed its doors. I remember it, as if it was yesterday, all the commotion in the streets, as thousands of local people lost their jobs.Three years later, in 1977, I was there again, this time as a new employee as the Imperial brand was revived under a new company. I was the first to start unloading boxes in the old Imperial factory and I worked my way up from warehouse boy to managing many different aspects of the business.Eventually, in 2004, thanks to years of hard work, determination and a passion for success, I went from stacking pallets in the factory, to owning the company: I bought out the bosses and became Managing and Design Director.The Imperial brand is a prestigious British icon and has a heritage beginning way back in 1908, as a company engineering "the great writing machine", the Imperial typewriter, with each individual part being made at the factory which still stands in Leicester on East Park Road today. The impact of our award-winning patented technologies can now be seen and felt across the globe, continuing the legacy of Great British Design and innovation that the Imperial Typewriter Company started over 100 years ago.
