I worked with our rail work winning team i.e. Bid writing/estimating. Starting from the pre-qualification questionnaire, invitation to tender, negotiations, and contract award. Commonly known as the Pre-construction stage – arguably the first step to any job/project. After all, one has to win the job, to do the job.A placement that also involved assisting a quantity surveyor with applications for payments for both subcontractor and client on minor railway projects. In addition, understanding the significance of variations/compensation events and various types of contracts and clauses i.e. NEC 3 contracts options A, B, C, D, E & F. I also spent time with our railway minor works team, whereby I assisted the management team in producing work package plans, construction phase plans, site supervision, and populating site diaries.

A placement with the Engineering/design assurance team within the Rail transport division. I worked and assisted Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) and Contractors' Engineering Manager (CEM) in delivering minor railway projects for network rail (client). Working alongside experienced engineers, I was exposed to understanding client standards, e.g., Network Rail standards, as well as internal company procedures. The main aim of this placement was to learn more about industry design standards and procedures, along with the health and safety aspects of projects from the design stage to the construction stage. Furthermore, I learned how to manage tasks, work to a deadline, as well as interact with clients, designers, and other internal and external stakeholders.

On-site placement in the Aviation transport division at Heathrow. I worked on maintenance projects on both airside and landside. In addition, I was exposed to various teams such as the survey team, where I did setting out to understand the procedures around locating underground service i.e. PAS128. I briefly worked with the commercial team where I assisted with reviewing and finalising project deliverables from our sub-contractors, extracting key subcontractors' information from construction line such as insurance details, and liaising with suppliers on quotations. My time in the office involved scoping airside maintenance projects, risk assessments, requesting permits, and all necessary documents needed to deliver the jobs for the night to successfully execute their work.

An on-site placement in the Rail transport division. I worked on a waste management facility in Peterborough. The demolition and installation of a new bridge in Paignton, Devon. My main responsibilities were setting out, checking the quality of works, preparing health & and safety hand back files, site inductions, toolbox talks, site waste management plans, conducting cube samples, inspections test plans, etc.
