The community based block program graduate assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting the programs administration collaborating closely with the CBB program Director. This dynamic role requires high, personal motivation, effective communication skills, and a commitment to learning new software and research methodologies for managing confidential data and correspondence to organizing program events and conducting outreach. The graduate assistance ensures the smooth functioning of the program. As a Community Health Worker for this nonprofit and am tasked with providing support as it relates to COVID-19 resources to the community. Providing information and resources for services that include but are not limited to COVID testing, vaccinations, general information, companionship and community partnerships. While in this role I also educate communities on how they can access resources and learn more about COVID-19 related issues.

As a Community Health Worker (CHW) we were tasked with providing COVID-19 resources information to the region we were assigned as the assigned seats W-2s to the San Diego region are responsibility for those that reside in San Diego county specifically providing up-to-date information about COVID-19 testing vaccinations and addressing miss information we accomplish this in several different ways through face-to-face contact social media outreach and partnering and collaborating with other community based organizations we also attended planning groups address advocacy groups and community councils to share updates and access to resources we outreach to churches and Laos to promote testing and vaccinations and marginalized underrepresented communities

As a Public Health Advocate our aim is to reduce the disproportionately high tobacco use rate and rates of exposure to second hand smoke in the Asian Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander communities of San Diego. This project works toward the adoption of smoke-free multi-unit housing policies that protect San Diego residents from drifting secondhand smoke in their homes, while also referring residents to services to help them quit smoking. We also partner with healthcare institutions to promote the adoption and implementation of smoke-free campus policies and cessation referral systems. And lastly, we provide the opportunity for youth to capacity build and offer training to the youth in areas such as: meeting facilitation, public speaking for policy change, and other topics.

In my role as the graduate assistant to the Director of Student employment I was tasked with provided guidance to potential student employees. I was responsible for the processing of required student employment documentation. I also provided payroll training to students utilizing university computer software Workday. I was an integral part of the creation of the university student handbook. I was also responsible for the develop, scheduling, and coordinating of the annual Student Awards ceremony.

The project, Targeted Services, will seek out 9th and 10th graders on the 1.0-2.9 GPA range to provide personalized academic assistance. A cohort of sixty students will be established. Thirty students will from Morse High School and thirty students will be from Lincoln High School. All students in each cohort will be met with on a biweekly time period.

As a community worker for this organization I was tasked with being the team lead whose target demographic were members of the Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander communities of San Diego. Much of the work I did involved community outreach and engagement. I was tasked with data collection, data analysis, and educational materials development. This project focused on the prevalence of Breast Cancer and knowledge of Breast Cancer within these communities. Community members were asked to participate in one-on-one interviews where we began to collect data regarding community perceptions.

In my role as an instructional aide I assisted the teacher with providing one-on-one instruction for children. I assisted the teacher in reducing classroom disruption, providing students with an opportunity to explain how I can support them. I was also tasked with assisting in the creation of lesson plans, administering additional testing to track student development, and assist in administrative duties. As the event coordinator I introduced several programs to the site such as clothing and food drives as well as an incentive based behavioral program. For this program students who exhibited good deeds, classroom attentiveness, and showcased good behavior were rewarded with tickets, which they then could use to exchange for goodies at the end of every week.
