Nano-electronics:1) Designed and implemented experiments to find methods to construct circuit elements on the nanometer scale using an atomic force microscope. 2) Led experimental studies spanning several types of materials and methods including gold nanoparticles, semiconductor nanoparticles and various polymers to match our desired nano-scale circuit elements.3) Developed experimental methods to graft, write on, and chemically modify surfaces on the nanometer scale in the horizontal direction to allow for further processing.4) Established techniques and rules for selective deposition of nano-monolayers on the templated areas on our samples to facilitate a bottom to top approach in building the desired circuit elements.Various Collaboration Projects:1) Provided atomic force microscope imaging services and various other metrology tools to aid in developing a novel biosensor aimed at detecting MERSA infections in patients on site 2) Aided in studying plasmonic lifetimes in different nano-structures by performing and analyzing atomic force microscopy imaging3) Studied adhesion properties of semiconducting silicon nanoparticles in a nano-scale actuator project using atomic force microscopy 4) Analyzed surface properties of new materials used in constructing solar cells to help characterize the materials and methods used5) Maintain several types of atomic force microscopes6) Train users on several types of atomic force microscopes
