I currently working as a systems integration engineer for Scripps Networks Interactive (SNI). My responsibilities are to manage systems between the administrators/operations department and the development groups. Among my tasks, I have executed deployment of development code in upper environment systems for the development teams.Most recently, I have also worked with our engineering group to find solutions managing the software on our systems. A large part of this has been included in the directive to move our applications to a cloud-based environment, in particular, Amazon Web Services (AWS). We have developed and grown a tool set for helping establish a continuous delivery process using Cloudbees/Jenkins, Artifactory, AWS, and some Python scripting. Improving these tools continues to progress as add more features to the deployment process and utilize more of the resources of the services which are part of our continuous delivery configuration.When I was first starting at SNI, I replaced some BASH script handling the analysis of output from DART. The process was re-engineered to use multithreaded Python scripts to do the job of monitoring, packaging, and sending the log files.I also migrated an older project using Django 0.97 running on servers using Python 2.3.4 to servers using Python 2.6. Because that version of Django was released in 2006, much had changed in the Django codebase to make use of the upgraded Python. This required designing a few workarounds to get the older code to work in a newer environment.My Linux knowledge has increased greatly since I have been a systems engineer. Finding new tools and utilities to aid in my managing the servers and learning how to use them to engineer solutions has been a welcomed challenge.
