Delivered first phase of the Capacity Market software ahead of schedule while under aggressive timelines. Designed and architected new software services and APIs for Alberta’s Capacity market. Successfully designed and integrated on premise system with SaaS custom cloud solution. Conducted design reviews, focused on scalability, reliability, and other best practices.

Automated build and deployment pipeline for microservice architecture. Collaborate with developers, operations, and QA teams to orchestrate and automate deployment of microservice releases into AWS Cloud. Wrote AWS CloudFormation templates to codify the Devops infrastructure, enabling more efficient and predictable deployments.

Reduced the risk of failure from unsupported software and hardware. Assessed, designed, and coordinated the modernization of a large critical commercial system that manages many pipelines. Designed and implemented a new invoicing system for sale of electricity, helping the business to enhance income opportunities in the eastern US. Utilized mult-tier .Net web solution. Successfully worked with remote teams: business in Westborough (Mass) and developers in Rosario (Argentina). Practiced continuous-delivery, showcasing new features to stakeholders biweekly, deploying to production monthly.

Architected and delivered a web solution for booking lab appointments for the call center and general public in order to reduce call-wait times and increase bookings on the public site. Collaborated early and often with stakeholders to solicit ideas and feedback. Interfaced to the external Time Trade API. Public site is responsive to mobile and tablet devices.

Designed and implemented a system to collect and store data from distributed sites into central Postgresql DB warehouse. Architected and designed new warehouse schema, replacing legacy reporting system and migrated data from legacy SQL Server DB. Provided acceptance tests against the API of a legacy system using the Ruby Cucumber testing framework.

Integrated commercial operations of another pipeline company, resulting in widespread changes to multiple legacy systems. Implemented changes in Java and C#. Provided oversight and coordinated the deployment of legacy systems. Created and maintained test environments to support QA staff. Resulted in smooth deployment, few defects, and completed on time and under budget.

Modernized legacy reporting system by replacing obsolete web components with Java framework. Worked with 5-member local team and 6-member remote team.First release stopped re-keying of loan info into multiple systems and reduced the time to service a loan in half.

Ported complex legacy Smalltalk billing application to Java in 6 months. Assisted domain experts to specify functional tests in spreadsheets. Automated these spreadsheets tests against legacy and newly ported system. Led 4-5 member agile team on follow-up project to make extensive enhancements to the billing system. Integrated with contracting system, converting multiple data sources to a single common database. Developed the functional tests first, then modified the code. Successfully delivered 3 production releases on time with a 100% customer satisfaction

Designed and implemented a regression-testing framework to retrofit regression tests onto existing legacy train control system. Led a team of 3 developers and testers using agile practices. Using the regression-testing framework during the C to C++ port of system resulted in shorter testing period and fewer defects.

Participated in an agile development team for a 3-month pilot project. Prepared Java coding exercises and assisted in a two-day testing course, Testing for Developers with XUnit with Gerard Meszaros. Instructed developers on automated testing principles and techniques using XUnit and other testing tools.

Prepared and packaged a Clearance, Settlement, Borrowing and Lending, Trade Management system for delivery to the Warsaw Stock exchange, Poland. Mentored and trained staff in WebLogic Application server. Created simplified and repeatable build process using Ant, which ran on multiple platforms, including AS400.

Provided mentoring to a 5-member development team during a 3 month agile pilot project. Subsequently interviewed business experts and developed the initial requirements model for the Train Control Renewal project. The functional requirements were documented using Use Cases and activity diagrams.

Designed and developed a web order entry system for Telus with a team of 3 using Java Servlets. Facilitated requirements-gathering meetings and identified user stories. Completed pilot and production deployment successfully. Designed and implemented a flexible program for migrating Metronet’s billing data from a legacy system to newer IBM system. Implemented a COM component to export Metronet’s billing data to another system.

Solicited requirements and identified critical Use Cases for NEC Electronics, CA., and produced the Purchasing functional specification on time. Received written compliment for quality and thoroughness of requirements document from NEC IT staff; the only one to receive this out of ten analysts. Participated in the analysis, design, and implementation of a Lottery Auditing Tool using Requisite Pro, Rational Rose, and Visual C++. Developed prototypes for sales and marketing using Delphi.
