The World Economic Forum and the Aker group have established an Affiliate Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network for ocean innovation and technology in Norway (C4IR Ocean), the first thematic centre in the network. C4IR Ocean has a global mandate to unleash the potential of 21st-century data and technology for one healthy and productive ocean. The initiative includes the Ocean Data Platform that we are developing for anyone to connect to and view global Ocean data. From the local to the global scale, from marine biology to vessel tracking, thousands of people, organizations and companies capture data about the ocean. Yet, a large amount of ocean data is inaccessible and not readily available to enable analysis and decision making. There are already a number of data initiatives and platforms in operation, but no all-encompassing platform combining it all. The Ocean Data Platform (ODP) enables the entire ocean community such as academia, business, citizens and ocean management policy makers to collaborate and share data for one healthy ocean by offering digital tools and services with easy access to data and immersive visualisation and AI tools. This will greatly alleviate some of the major challenges currently facing marine conservation and the development of new ocean industry.
