About Mohamad E. Gorji
• Highly skilled researcher with 7+ years of experience in multiple areas, including food microbiology and virology, mitigation of pathogenic bacteria and viruses, RNA sequencing and bioinformatic analysis, measurement of chemical contaminants and associated health risk assessment, and produced 13 peer-reviewed articles• Dedicated food scientist and nutritionist having a work history in international corporation and governmental agency with strong organizational skillsSince joining NUS as PhD student, I’ve been focusing on the inactivation of pathogenic bacteria and viruses using various methods, such as photodynamic inactivation, probiotics, disinfectants, edible coating of berries, etc. In addition, performing cell culture-based antiviral and antibacterial tests as well as transcriptomic studies using bioactive compounds and antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) has been part of my research. Performing a wide range of experiments has helped me to develop many molecular and chemical skills. Some of these include encapsulation of active compounds, working with several cell lines, sequencing and bioinformatic analysis using Galaxy, DNA/RNA extraction form bacteria and viruses, and modelling of microbial inactivation. Over my master's research, I developed and validated a rapid method for measurement of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in meat.
