Mohamed Abdi began what would be a 38-year career in the telecommunications industry in his native Somalia where he worked at the Somali Broadcasting Service and was instrumental in setting up the country's first television station.Mr. Abdi subsequently moved to the United Arab Emirates in 1982, where he was hired by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Department (WED) to set up communications networks for its remote offices that were servicing the establishment of the Emirate's eastern, central and western regions. In 1983, Mr. Abdi established a small mobile workshop, installing HF wireless transceiver base stations in all the main remote offices with a connection with a central station in Abu Dhabi coupled with a telephone exchange. In subsequent years, Mr. Abdi further modernized the workshop and was in charge of it until 1996 when it was re-branded as the "WED Wireless Workshop". In the 1990s, Mr. Abdi introduced and administered (the then) modern Private Branch Exchange Systems such as Lucent Definity PABX, Siemens Hicom 350E and 300H PABXs in Abu Dhabi city and all remote areas of the Emirate. Later in his career, Mr. Abdi served as the Etisalat telecommunications contact engineer and followed up on all WED correspondence with Etisalat on daily basis and handled all technical inquiries. When WED was outsourced in 1999 by the Abu Dhabi Government, Mr. Abdi joined the newly established Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) as a Telecommunications Network Engineer responsible for voice and data structured cabling designs. ADDC later outsourced its IT branch in 2005 to Injazat Data Systems and Mr. Abdi joined them as Senior Infrastructure Engineer until August 2013.After 2 years in retirement, Mr. Abdi founded his own consultancy firm, Hildeed Global, that caters to technology entrepreneurs at every stage of their growth. Hildeed Global also helps cities and technology clusters to accelerate their entrepreneurial development.With a wealth of experience, Mr. Abdi is presently available for work in the United States (he is a legal permanent resident) on a part-time basis.
