Providing all homeless with fresh new Socks , Shoes and foot care products.Muslims Giving Back has been serving NYC’s homeless for nearly a decade now, providing a wide array of free services including free health/wellness checks, hot meal distribution, clothing drives, and our latest initiative that we are proud to launch, named Project Happy Feet.Project Happy Feet was born in the wake of the covid-19 pandemic, as our city reeled from the burden of illness and death it faced, to become the worldwide epicenter of the disease. The admonition to social distance and quarantine, our only weapons against the contagion, resonated with us as being useless advice for the city’s undomiciled, unable to retreat to the luxury of isolated quarters. So in this climate of covid-19, we decided to pursue another avenue of aid for protecting the health of our homeless. We knew that one of the factors that contribute to heavily to their poor health was the condition of their feet. Wearing consistently wet, soiled or inadequate socks or shoes contributes to a myriad of medical conditions ranging from trench-foot and soft-tissue infections all the way to gangrene and amputations. And so, in the beginning of the NYC shutdown, we had our first campaign to obtain new socks. It was a wild success. Our homeless friends were literally putting down the food trays to try and receive the socks and sneakers instead.
