Baghlan/Bamyan Afghanistan

• Provided leadership and overall management to the regional education team in the implementation of education programs in Baghlan and Bamyan regions that increased access and quality of education particularly for girls in around 300 government schools, more than 1000 community-based primary classes, 6 Teachers’ training colleges and large number of ECD and Mother literacy centres.• Prepared strategic plans for education programs implementation with main focus on effective utilization of human and material resources, coordination with Government education departments, community engagement in education, promoting female education and provided regular support in the implementation of the plans.• Worked closely with Provincial and District Education Departments in three provinces of Afghanistan (Baghlan, Bamyan and Parwan) and facilitated them in developing annual plan of operation and school support mechanism. A series of initiatives were taken to develop their capacity such as workshops, exposure visits, joint visits to the field and reflective sessions.• Developed strategic plan for Community-Based Education Project which included meaningful and empowered inclusion of local community in school management. • Strengthened civil society organizations such as School Shuras, village councils, School Student Association (SSAs) and health committees which played key roles in improving the learning environment in schools• Developed a mechanism to support AKF’s education program with Multi sectoral integration approach;• Ensured timely and regular reports to AKF Education Director and maintained a channel of communication especially on issues which presented potential impact on AKF initiatives.

Bdk, Afghanistan

• Identified and supported six model schools in three provinces of Afghanistan by exercising ‘Whole School Improvement’ (WSI) as a flagship approach for change. Within a period of three years, the target girls’ schools became models for neighbouring schools because of girls’ friendly environment and innovative teaching/learning practices• Conceptualized and implemented gender responsive courses in the target school and capacitated the technical staff of the AKF supported regions to provide process oriented mentoring support for the schools.• Developed and initiated comprehensive strategies for female and out-out school children which resulted in increased number of girls in schools particularly in the valleys where there were no girls in schools previously.• Initiated and promoted innovative activities such as in-house professional development of teachers, inclusion of women’s voice in decision making, child to child contact for girls’ enrolment in schools, stakeholder’ mobilization to address girls’ forced and early marriage issues which were well received by the community and education department. • Carried out technical backstopping for Regional Education Manager. • Developed the capacity of school head and academic supervisors of Provincial and District Directorates with special emphasis on Gender & Child Rights and Gender Fair Teaching.• Prepared reports on monthly, quarterly and bi-annually on Professional Development Unit (PDU) activities in the region.

Karach, Pakistan

• Designed, planned and conducted a series of AKU-IED’s Certificate Programs on teacher education and school leadership in Afghanistan which resulted in improvement teaching and learning environment in their schools. By providing follow-up support facilitated the schools in establishing Teachers’ Resource Rooms and school-based mentoring system their schools. • Developed course handbooks and course materials for the program in English and Persian. • Planned and conducted follow-up supported program to provide on the job support to the course participants in six provinces of Afghanistan. • Documented programmatic activities and wrote reports on program implementation. • Apart from affiliation with the Afghan Project, I took a lead role in conceptualizing and conducting short courses on ‘Leadership & Management, Multi-grade Teaching and Early Childhood Education under AKU-Professional Development Centre, Chitral. • Helped course participants of ‘Leadership and Management Program’ to identify areas of improvement in their respective schools, develop and implement strategic plans to address them.
