Research AssociateIntegrated Community Energy Harvest (Ice-Harvest) Lab, Mcmaster University Sep 2020 - Jan 2021Hamilton, Ontario, CanadaOptimal design, control and operation of community energy systems to achieve maximum efficiency, minimum cost, and minimum carbon dioxide emissions.My duties included the design of preliminary sizing tools for a new concept of 5th generation of district energy system. Different methods were considered such as thermal load following, electrical load following, CHP partial loading, short-term and long term energy storage (geothermal boreholes), thermal energy sharing among heating and cooling dominated buildings, etc, to find appropriate sizing of different components such as CHP, geothermal storage, and heat pumps. This preliminary sizing was developed in equation-based software such as MATLAB and was used as a feasibility tool to measure the potentials of the project. The results were then used in commercial software such as TRNSYS and Dymola (Open Modelica) for detailed analysis. The optimization of the system was then carried out using ModeFRONTIER.

Mechanical Engineers, Chemical Engineers, Chemists, and other experts work in BRIL to design and commercialize advanced renewable energy systems for fuel and power.- Since September 2016, as a Mechanical Engineer and senior researcher, I have been involved in the projects including: thermochemical and biochemical conversion (combustion, gasification, torrefaction, pyrolysis, carbonization, anaerobic digestion) of agri-residue, biomass, plastic, and waste (MSW, Bio-solids) for fuel and energy, Renewable and cleaner energy technologies (ex: hydrogen from biomass, agri-residue and waste with in-process CO2 capture), Life cycle analysis and thermodynamic optimization.- I have also led the design and construction of a novel continuous wet biomass to bioenergy system (hydrothermal carbonization) as well as managing the purchase of new reactors and characterization systems. - My accomplishments include the satisfaction of the industrial partners as well as publishing of several papers in prestigious journals. -
