Bridge Engineer IiT.Y. Lin International May 2023 - PresentVancouver, British Columbia, CanadaQuebec’s Ministry of Transportation, New Île-d'Orléans Bridge Bid Design Project | Quebec City, QC, CA The new 2.1-km cable-stayed bridge will be located in the most active seismic zone in eastern Canada and will feature two lanes of traffic, shoulders and a multi-use lane for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides of the bridge. Mohammad performed complex cable-stayed bridge analyses in LARSA 4D including cable loss and replacement, response spectrum for seismic, modal wind study, etc. He also independently reviewed the time-history seismic model in ADINA. Mohammad was also involved in proposing the structural health monitoring system for the bridge. The system will facilitate the inspection and maintenance of the bridge and allow bridge condition evaluation in real time. It will provide an additional safety net that triggers alarms for extreme events and help with localizing probable damage. -

Bridge EngineerCowi Sep 2022 - Apr 2023Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaHarris County Toll Road Authority, New Houston Ship Channel Bridge Detailed Design Project | Harris County, TX, USANew Houston Ship Channel bridge is a 2,720-ft long twin cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 1,320 ft. The superstructure consists of two independent decks forming separate roadways for southbound and northbound traffic. The pylons are curved double diamond shaped with legs connected above, below, and at the deck level while sharing the same foundation, thereby creating interaction between the two bridge structures. Mohammad performed the lead analysis role and experienced resource planning, scheduling, prioritizing tasks, resolving conflicts, coordinating meetings, etc. He improved efficiency and productivity of the analysis by integrating Git (version control system), Grasshopper (parametric geometry preprocessor), and Python (output postprocessor) with CADiNP (SOFiSTiK FEA syntax). He gained first-hand exposure to wind tunnel testing by visiting RWDI facilities at Guelph, Canada. Mohammad performed complex cable-stayed bridge analysis in SOFiSTiK FEA for cable loss and replacement, P-Delta, cracking permutations, etc. He also checked calculations and drawings of stay cables and cradles. -
Bridge DesignerCowi Apr 2019 - Aug 2022North Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaBritish Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Highway 91/17 Upgrade Project | Vancouver, BC, CAMohammad performed the detailed design of the main span superstructure for three under/over-pass bridges per CAN/CSA-S6-14, BC MoTI's Standards, AASHTO LRFD, CPCI Design Manual, and the project requirements. Mohammad designed box stringers, NU girders, and cast-in-place deck slab on partial-depth precast panels. He also conducted grillage analysis for two of the bridges. Force effects due to changes imposed by the climate change were also considered in his analysis and design.City of Vancouver, Granville Bridge Connector Conceptual Design Project | Vancouver, BC, CAAs a part of City of Vancouver’s conceptual plans for a new walking, rolling, and cycling path across the Granville Bridge, Mohammad estimated the quantity of finger joints, strip steel joints, expansion bearings, fixed bearings, concrete deck, asphalt, concrete barriers, steel barriers, and drainage inlets in the main and approach spans as well as five ramps.Seaway International Bridge Corporation, Seaway International Bridge Initial Seismic Project | Cornwall, ON, CAThrough understanding the fundamental structural behavior and probable damage and/or failure due to seismic loads, Mohammad was able to successfully prepare a technical memo on the seismic assessment of the bridge as well as a post-earthquake inspection procedure for evaluating the bridge structural stability and its probable damage and failure cases.Harris County Toll Road Authority, New Houston Ship Channel Bridge Independent Review Project | Harris County, TX, USAMohammad reviewed design of foundation elements (drilled shafts, pier/pylon bases, and pier pile-caps) using AASHTO LRFD guidelines. In addition, he served as an analyst in checking dynamic properties and application of equivalent static wind loads as well as performing detailed weight take-off calculations and creep and shrinkage estimations. -
