I set up a small business in 2008 after spotting a gap in the care market for Somali-focused care support. Simple things, like not being able to ask for Somali food, or having to get a family member to translate, gave my uncle little control of his quality of life and the care he received. It was also stressful for the carer, dealing with someone who was clearly often distressed and unhappy. I wanted to create a care agency that allowed everyone to be cared for the way they wanted and that was culturally and religiously sensitive to people from all backgrounds. Care solution bureau grew very quickly after receiving a big contract from the London borough of Tower Hamlets. As a managing director, I went from being responsible for around 8 employees to now being responsible for over 300 employees delivering over 6000 hours of care service a week.I make sure everything is running smoothly with the business whether it’s with the finance team, making sure we are keeping in line with all regulations, liaising with external organisations such as CQC, consultants, the Council etc. I have to manage risks to the business and I am responsible for the day to day decisions.
