About Mohammed Alziadeh, Ph.D
I am an R&D Scientist at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) . I have 9+ years of research experience in experimental fluid mechanics, aeroacoustics, fluid-sound-structure interaction, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA), noise and vibration control. As a part of my research studies I have published many research articles in reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings. I have also had the privilege of presenting at several national and international conferences. Some of my research experience has impacted industry directly. During my undergraduate studies I took part in an NSERC funded project to experimentally and numerically evaluate the vibrational behavior of aircraft seats. This project involved a major reputable aerospace manufacturer. I also took part in another NSERC research project directly impacting the nuclear power industry. This project involved the experimental evaluation and suppression of pressure pulsations in piping systems. During my PhD studies I participated in a collaborative study with high-tech industry component supplier Curtiss-Wright Nuclear Canada (CWNC) to improve seismic qualification for the nuclear industry. As part of the testing group we evaluated over-testing behavior of a seismic table by performing rigorous experimental vibration and acoustic measurements.I also have 7+ years of teaching experience as laboratory instructor and teaching assistant in a broad range of engineering subjects, such as kinematics and dynamics of machines and mechanical vibrations. I have been the proud recipient of multiple academic scholarships and awards. I was the recipient of some of these awards consecutively over a span of 6 years. Some of these awards recognized excellence in research, including the Outstanding Thesis Award university wide for my Master's thesis.

- Performed rigorous experimental measurements of the flow field in a subsonic wind tunnel by performing PIV measurements in different planes to capture the unsteady flow characteristics in the gap and wake of bluff bodies.- Conducted Phase-Locked PIV measurements and a three-dimensional acoustic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to model flow-acoustic coupling and identify aeroacoustic sources/sinks during flow-induced acoustic resonance.- Designed and developed a unique test rig with a high mechanical frequency to directly and accurately measure the fluctuating forces in air of bluff bodies at high Reynolds number before and during flow-induced acoustic resonance.- Design and developed tubes instrumented with multiple static pressure taps to measure the pressure coefficient and fluctuating pressures and frequencies in heat exchanger tube bundles. - Developed a preliminary design guideline chart to estimate the flow velocity at the onset of acoustic resonance excitation in heat exchangers which includes the effect of the flow approach angle.- Published research findings in 5 peer-reviewed prestigious journals and presented research findings at 5 reputable international conferences.

- Assisted in the design and development of an experimental piping test rig to evaluate acoustic characteristics of a pipe with and without passive control devices.- Evaluated the insertion loss of different types of passive control devices installed at various locations along the test rig using multiple flush-mounted microphones and LabVIEW software.- Developed a preliminary design guideline where passive control devices will be most effective when installed in industrial pipeline applications.- Research work was presented in a research showcase, which received an honorable mention.

- Participated in the design and commissioning of a test rig to be used in the 6-degree of freedom (DoF) Multi-Axis Shaker Table (MAST) facility at the Automotive Center of Excellence (ACE).- Experimentally evaluated the dynamic response of aircraft seats subjected to vibration during different flight conditions using multiple accelerometers and LabVIEW software. - Post-processed experimental data and assessed whole-body vibration (WBV) exposure based on ISO-2631-1 and BS-6841 standards using Maltab software.- Developed a FEA model using ANSYS Workbench simulating the dynamic response of aircraft passenger seat subjected to vibrations during different flight conditions.
