About Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Phd

Prof. Mohammed Rahman is an academic leader with qualifications from Bangladesh and the UK. He has wide experience of academic and professional works in Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Oman, and Canada. Mohammed has led the development of Oman’s first architecture program, Bahrain’s first construction engineering program, Malaysia’s first sustainable urban design program, Saudi Arabia’s first engineering installation program, and Bangladesh’s first interior design and construction engineering programs. He has prepared 30 programs and innovative learning resources in various areas all over the world that established him as a premier Curricula Expert. Mohammed has taught architecture, urban design, and construction in Bangladesh, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and Malaysia. He has also designed and led architectural and other projects in North America and Bangladesh. Mohammed was also elected to lead professional societies, and student and civic bodies.Mohammed received the Commonwealth Scholarship for his PhD in the UK and McNamara Fellowship to research on the NGOs. He has published widely in the areas of morphology, affordable shelter, livability, global city, iconic structure, conservation, new urbanism, place making, waterfront development, etc. Mohammed has over 150 publications, 26 book chapters, and 8 books to his credit, and serves several international journals as reviewer. His last book, “A Handbook of Riverfront Cities”, was published by Routledge in 2022. His current interests include waterfront urbanism, outcome-based education and curricula, structure for architects, and iconic architecture in global cities.Mohammed has provided visionary guidance to set and lead various academic entities at Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology, North South University, Sultan Qaboos University, Kingdom University, and Al-Asala University. Currently as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology in Dhaka, he is leading the progressive changes that include transition to open credit system, new curricula development, enhancing teaching-learning-research, and other reforms.His four decades of intensive academic and professional works include advising governments and international bodies on urban issues, and participating in the preparation of Building Code, Structure Plan, Planning Bylaws, Housing Policy, Poverty Reduction Program, etc. These have helped Mohammed to develop unique expertise in the fields of higher education (curriculum, accreditation, quality assurance) and built environment.
