Again, as part of my University course, I was given the opportunity to carry out part of my placement at Rathbone, Manchester where I would work with learners aged 16-18yrs old. The learners at Rathbone came from a similar background to those from CoAchieve however, these learners had far more social issues which dictated their education. Many lived in social housing and rejected education whilst in high school. They now find themselves getting into trouble with the law and told to attend the training site in order to achieve a level 2 qualification in English and Maths. As a functional Skills Maths Tutor, I would cover topics such as Area and Perimeters, 2D and 3D shapes, Percentages, Fractions and Decimals and much more. It was a challenge delivering Maths to learners who refuse to learn. This helped to develop my Behaviour Management Skills and Classroom Management Skills. I also had to think creatively in order to get the learners to engage in studying. I did this with the introduction Skittles. Whilst teaching Graphs, I introduced Skittles and one of the tasks was to separate, count and group all the Skittles based on their colour and once they had done this, they had to plot their findings into a bar chart, line graph and pie chart.

As an adult educator, I would work with adult learners who came from the lower end of the social scale. Whilst at CoAchieve, I worked with learners who had drug and alcohol abuse and who were often sleeping rough.
