Dr. Mohammed Musa TUMALA holds PhD and MSc (Statistics) of the University of Ibadan, BSc (Statistics) of the University of Maiduguri, and an Executive Certificate in Public Policy of the Harvard Kennedy School, Executive Education. His work experience spans monetary policy, public policy management, social and economic research, econometric modelling, Monitoring & Evaluation, and data systems/project management with publications in econometrics and data analytics. He has worked in Banking industry, Development work, the Academics and Politics. His career started as a lecturer with the University of Maiduguri in 1987. He briefly joined politics in 1991 and was elected Member of the House of Representatives, National Assembly in 1992. He returned to the University of Maiduguri at the end of the Third Republic. In 2004/2005, Dr. Tumala undertook short-term consulting with the World Bank/Lagos Metropolitan Development Program, the National Action Committee on Aids and UNAIDS as an M&E team member of the national response to HIV/AIDS and TB, and full-time M&E/Research Advisor responsibilities on USAID Projects in Nigeria.In 2006, he left the University of Maiduguri for long-term consulting with Constella Futures International LCC and The Mitchell Group Inc. of the District of Columbia as Senior M&E and Research Advisor. Both firms offered research and modelling services in areas of project management, development and implementation of health, economic and education policy reforms in Nigeria as part of the USAID/Missions program. He led the capacity building program for the use of the FAMPLAN models for population management. In 2008, he briefly joined the Nigeria MEMS project as Data Management Specialist. He later joined the Central Bank of Nigeria to lead the production and use of macroeconomic data, impact assessment/evaluation of development projects of the Bank, and later as Director Monetary Policy, to lead the Management of international economic relations, fiscal/monetary policy coordination, and monetary policy processes of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
