About Mohammed Uddin Dafil

I am a human geneticist conducting genetic research in neurological and neuropsychiatric diseases. My research interest includes i) understanding the molecular aetiology of broader neurodevelopmental disorders (i.e. autism, epilepsy, intellectual disability and other brain related disorders) and ii) developing mRNA based gene therapy technologies applying deterministic and evolutionary computation, a niche branch of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for optimization complexities. During his postdoctoral training, he was awarded Canada’s prestigious international Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship. I was awarded the best trainee award (28th Andrew Sass-Kortsak Award) by The Hospital for Sick Children. Co-published over 70 papers including many high impact journals such as Science, Nature Genetics, Nature Neuroscience, and JAMA. Research work has been highlighted in numerous national and international news outlets, including Globe and Mail, Nature News etc. I have a unique multidisciplinary educational background that includes training on computational algorithms and molecular genetics. My team's work on predicting pathogenicity of human mutations was successfully patented and subsequently licensed for variant interpretations. My current lab developing AI integrated systems with single cell OMICs technologies and mRNA antisense based therapeutics for broader neurodevelopmental genetic disorders. I have recently founded a Toronto based biotech startup GenomeArc Inc. based on his patent on clinical genomics. This startup is currently implementing multiple AI (genetic algorithm) integrated platform for genetic diagnosis and introducing automation for therapeutics related molecule design.
