About Mohanish Borana

As a graduate of SPRU UK (Sussex University), the University of Edinburgh and DAE-CEBS (University of Mumbai), my cross-disciplinary background is a blend of Chemical Sciences (Protein Chemistry, DNA Bionanotech.) and Science Policy. Academically, I was awarded/selected for following scholarships- INSPIRE (DST, Govt. of India), Khorana (DBT, Govt. of India), European Research Council (EU), Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship, Chancellor's International Scholarship (Sussex), The President of India Dr Shanker Dayal Sharma Medal Nomination, Melbourne International Research Scholarship (Australia), NUS Research Scholarship (Singapore), Clinton Global Initiative University (USA) and National Initiative on Undergraduate Science (HBCSE, TIFR).I have officially represented India as fellow of Govt. of India at Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings (Germany) and Asian Science Camp (South Korea). From August 2017 onwards, I am the President of the National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK, the largest association of Indian-origin students and young professionals outside India. Building NISAU into a multi-award-winning international organization, leadership during COVID-19 pandemic that was widely appreciated by Indian and British media, and co-conceptualization of "India-UK Achievers" award delivered in partnership with British Council and other key stakeholders are highlights of my 10+years of experience working with governments, institutions, and businesses.Professionally, as an international award winning science-communicator, I have worked as a Science Communication specialist at the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India and handled both internal and external communication for the COVID-19 pandemic, roll-out of Prime Minister's Science, Technology & Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC) missions, Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) Policy, STI for SDG pilot, Manthan Platform for Academia-Industry collaboration, & MANAS. I am currently building a not-for-profit “Vaigyanik Ji” foundation to promote India’s scientific, cultural and natural heritage and build STEM alliance-locally and globally.     Joined this youth organisation in June 2016 as Executive Director to carry forward its vision of generating grass-root level problem solvers by motivating youths of the region.
