Freya Dutta is the CCO of the design consultancy Antidote. She has 11 years professional history within human centered and user experience design, both inside humanitarian, technology, and advocacy sectors with a focus on game-based interaction for social impact. Freya created work for humanitarian organizations: UNICEF, WASH United, Red Cross Climate Center, Fleet Forum, The Rockefeller Foundation, The Ford Foundation, and The Innocence Project; technology companies: Verizon, Tumblr, Wordpress, and Bloomberg Terminal; and worker’s advocacy groups: The Laundry Workers’ Center, The Workers’ Justice Project, Los Deliveristas Unidos, Construction Workers United, and Liberty Cleaners. Freya led an effort by the Red Cross Climate Center and Partners for Resilience to research, build, and iterate on a set of game-based workshop tools for climate change outreach in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. She led workshops, created interventions, collected data, iterated on designs, and redeployed updated experience while testing their efficacy. Freya’s designs have been seen by and impacted millions of people. Her work at Tumblr, Bloomberg, Verizon, and Wordpress specifically focused on user onboarding, overseeing user experience research sessions focussed on increasing engagement and retention within younger audiences. Her game designs were integrated into the Red Cross Climate Center’s outreach program for youth and adults worldwide, and her games are still being deployed by Fleet Forum as part of their digital and physical training programs into driver and fleet safety 10 years after first being deployed. If you receive a food delivery by bike messenger in New York City, you have probably seen her designs for Los Deliveristas Unidos on the stickers, bags, and shirts of bike delivery drivers. She’s a dynamic graduate and undergraduate professor, with over a decade sharing her methods in colleges and universities worldwide. She taught graduate classes in the Design and Technology department at Parsons School of Design, School of Visual Arts Social Design and Innovation department, New York University’s Game Design department, and was a visiting professor at Syracuse University’s Department of Film and Media Arts. She’s also been an invited speaker and guest lecturer at MIT Media Lab, IADE Lisbon, Kölding School of Visual Arts in Denmark, and University of California Berkeley.She is currently based in Lisbon, Portugal, but is frequently found hosting workshops in NYC.
