Afghanistan

Nigeria

Responsibilities include -• Organized and supervised the Migration Health assessment process in the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) at IOM Abuja to fulfill the technical requirements of the resettlement countries in the areas of - medical examination, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccination, TB management, pre-departure procedures, and medical movements• Supervised health assessment for refugees and migrants, including review of medical history, physical examination, evaluation of X-ray, and review of lab results, particularly Sputum Smear examination, Sputum Culture, and GeneXpert. • Maintained the infrastructure and equipment of the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) premise in IOM Abuja to meet the professional standards of quality and safety • Coordinated with the Chief Migration Health Officer, HR, and MHAC organizational structure needs internally, and with the external counterparts, i.e. Federal Ministry of Health, Public Health Directorates, Nigeria Centre for Communicable Disease Control (NCDC) for Humanitarian Health Response.• Incorporated public health interventions such as surveillance for communicable diseases, outbreak preparedness, and response in the Migration Health Strategy 2024 - 2027 for Nigeria, drafted and finalized Health Factsheet for the mission. • Guided systematic collection, processing, and analyses of migration public health response data• Provided oversight and coordinated approach in the procurement of medical equipment, vaccines, and medications• Facilitated coordination and IOM contribution in the World TB Day celebration in collaboration with the National TB, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme of the Ministry of Health• Established cooridnation mechanism with WHO, UNICEF, Wold Bank and other counterparts including donors• Contributed in the a number of Concept Notes on mission's public health response

Cox'S Bazar

Bangladesh

• Assisted with planning of expansion of Directly Observed Treatment short-course (DOTS), drugs and logistic supplies, recording and reporting at urban and public private mix (PPM) areas• Assisted with implementation of standard procedures according to national guidelines at urban and PPM areas• Supervised NTP service centres at urban areas, including NGO’s; assist with monitoring and evaluation of National TB Programme• Coordinated the activities for DOTS expansion and improvement of quality of the services• Assisted with identifying deficiencies in staff performance, development and implementation of measures to improve performance at urban and PPM areas• Assisted with planning and improvement of the management information system at urban areas• Assisted with preparation of plans of action, annual reports and monitoring and evaluation reports• More than 30 NGOs (with an urban population coverage of more than 14.3 million through 299 DOT centres), 33 medical institutions, 13 hospitals at workplaces, 8 armed forces medical hospitals and health centres at 41 prisons were collaborated • In 2005 and 2006, approximately a total of 21,480 and 25,408 TB patients were treated and followed-up respectively in the urban and PPM areas of Bangladesh • TB control targets in the urban areas were achieved, i.e.: Case Detection Rate (CDR) increased from 55% in 2004 to 74% in 2007 and treatment success rate increased from 74% in 2004 to 84.5% in 2005 in the urban and PPM areas of Bangladesh, along with DOTS expansion in academic tertiary hospitals, workplaces (industries), prisons, and military hospitals. • Facilitated modular trainings on TB control management at national level for managers, doctors and supervisors • Guidelines of Public Private Mix for Tuberculosis Control, Ministry of Health, Bangladesh was developed and distributed • Comprehensive PPM components for the National TB Control, Bangladesh were incorporated in the strategic plan 2006-2011

Bangladesh

- Quality assurance of the TB control programme activities and TB laboratory services- TB-MIS, drugs and logistics supplies from central level, - Facilitating training among Medical Officers, Laboratory technicians and Program Organizers, - Financial budget- Linkage with National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP) and other government partners- Clinical services including the management of referred customers, management of TB, STD/RTI cases; prevention of TB, STD/ RTI, HIV/AIDS, vaccination programmes etc.- Prepare monthly/quarterly budget and financial report; provide training to the paramedics, Depot Holders and health volunteers• TB Programme received GFATM (Round 3 and 5) and Fidelis grants to cover 86 million population in 42 districts including 24 medical hospitals, 41 prisons and export procession zones of Bangladesh. • In 2004, BRAC tested over 765,000 suspected TB cases, and treated over 88,000 TB patients• Case detection rate increased to more than 70% in most of the areas with Treatment Success Rate more than 85%• External Quality Assurance (EQA) system for TB control was established and functionalized • At sub-district levels 5-10 Program Organizers and 50-100 health volunteers; at district levels 30-60 POs were supervised. At central level 11 Quality Assurance Program Organizers were supervised. • Findings presented in the first TB/HIV/AIDS conference held at Kathmandu, Nepal• Project findings on HIV/AIDS, family planning and reproductive health, and other project components were reported in the organizational annual reports and government publications.
