About Moin Baig
With 20 years of experience driving CAE simulation for automotive applications using LS-DYNA and expertise in PRIMER, HyperMesh, and ANSA, I have built a robust background in non-linear dynamic crash analysis, full-vehicle crashworthiness performance evaluation, structural and safety simulation, vehicle design optimization, and Six Sigma techniques to meet and exceed global vehicle safety standards. The key to my success has been spearheading innovative initiatives that transform vehicle safety. I excel in introducing groundbreaking designs, methodologies, and tools. At Harley-Davidson, for example, I adopted and enhanced the HIII-50M design to convert the ATD model from rigid-pelvis to articulating-pelvis, securing precise correlation between crash tests and impact simulations. This eliminated dependency on third-party ATD model services, streamlining processes and saving costs. Here’s a snapshot of my accomplishments:Pioneered ANSA, PRIMER, and Animator4 for model development, meshing, and post-processing at Harley-Davidson.Achieved a 26% reduction in TTI value (from 87G to 64G) in side-impact load cases by redesigning crossmembers at Ford.Minimized frontal-crash intrusion in offset rigid barrier cases by engineering a flared-rail-backed bumper deflector at GM.What sets me apart is my ability to build, lead, and collaborate with high-performing teams to drive full-vehicle impact simulations that deliver measurable results.Specialties: Full-Vehicle Crashworthiness Simulation | Crash Safety | CAE Engineering | Load Case Development | Design Optimization | DFSS Black Belt

Vehicle Crash Safety Occupant Engineer
Current
Cae Engineer, Instrument Panel And Passenger Airbag
As a CAE Engineer, I predicted material cracking in dynamic crash events using CAE models and LS-DYNA parameters, including stress triaxiality and computed stress vs. strain factors. I ensured the meeting of the voice of the customer for the vehicle interior design by participating proactively in design thinking workshops. My key achievement here included ensuring accurate and timely airbag deployment. To do so, I conducted several simulations to evaluate the deployment in hot and cold conditions. I also collaborated with a design engineer to gather countermeasure suggestions. By carrying out an iterative evaluation, I helped achieve target performance. Moreover, I conducted interior and exterior panel head-impact load cases. For instance, I leveraged the 7-Ways Idea Generation strategy to secure and implement design optimization recommendations from team members, including strategically removing IP material to reduce head acceleration to the target. By adopting such recommendations, I reduced the IP head-impact from 72G to 64G.KEY SKILLS: Head-Impact Load Case | Airbag Deployment | Occupant Safety | Simulation | Material-Cracking Prediction | Acceleration Reduction
Crash Safety Engineer
As a Crash Safety Engineer, I carried out side-impact performance studies and achieved a balance between IIHS and LINCAP crash tests to improve vehicle safety. I also mentored a team of 30 engineers and encouraged them to use LS-DYNA.My key studies involved analyzing the impact of the moving a deformable barrier on the B-pillar and creating remediation packages to improve reinforcement. For instance, I helped prevent the inaccurate bending of the B-pillar by inserting a pendulum-based design to lower the chances of fatal injuries. I also created an impactor to analyze the intrusion and rear-door velocity impact on the B-pillar. To do so, I meshed the B-pillar using ANSA and reduced the element length down to 1mm. I then created the deformed profile of the B-pillar and achieved accurate cracking prediction using LS-DYNA. In another instance, I pinpointed misalignment between the barrier and the rocker panel during the correlation analysis and pitched for solutions to help achieve the target performance. Through this proactive CAE model assessment, I improved the LINCAP crash test rating from 4- to 5-star. Additionally, I prevented the dislodging and tearing of the B-pillar by engineering a joint mechanism with the roof rail.KEY SKILLS: Impact Testing | Remediation Package | Correlation Analysis | IIHS & LINCAP | Crash Test Rating Improvement | B-Pillar Analysis | Side-Impact Test
Safety Cae Performance Engineer
Carried out sensing analysis on full vehicle for front impact load cases. Created test plans and requests for doing sensing data acquisition for calibration of the airbag sensors. Analyzed front structure for the small offset load case and recommended changes to the design team for meeting the IIHS requirements. Evaluated barriers for determining optimum match with the real world crash data.
Lead Design Engineer
CAE integrated with product development activities. Lead advance product development, using LEAN processes. Developed a subsystem for washing machine using Shingijutsu LEAN process and try storm approach, resulting in a cost saving of 1.4 MM annually. This cost saving was achieved by reducing the size and improving the efficiency of the subsystem. Analyzed the structure for shipping test and simulated for the drop test using LS-DYNA. Perform assessment of the basket and tub assembly, bearing load for out of balance load cases. Proposed counter-measures to meet design targets. Performed topology optimization for machine parts. FEA tools used Hypermesh, Hyperview, LS-DYNA and RADIOSS linear (OptiStruct) Greenbelt training course work completed. Learnt a new methodology of work called the LEAN product design and development which uses techniques to stay on course with the program timeline and deliver the results with a high quality and informed engineering judgment. product development.
Crash Safety Engineer
Improved the structural performance of a C-type to achieve a high class safety rating which contributed to a 35% sales increase.Proposed and implemented countermeasures working concurrently with cross functional teams. Lowered the testing costs by 43% by using computational methods and engineering judgment in new product development.
Project Engineer
• Developed a full-vehicle FEA model & evaluated its performance in a 35 mph full-frontal crash event & 40 mph frontal offset deformable barrier impact.
Project Engineer
Responsible for the full vehicle and component level evaluation of the school bus body for meeting the FMVSS requirements.
