I'm Co-Founder and CEO of Automated Architecture (AUAR). AUAR is building the technology to make sustainable housing universally accessible. AUAR’s automated construction platform is relied upon by the whole construction value chain - homebuilders, developers and manufacturers - from design to manufacturing. Uniquely, AUAR is the only construction tech company that has cracked both the technology and the business model to scale.As a thought leader I have always worked at the intersection of the design of architectural systems and automation. I believe in radically changing the way we build so we can change the way we live. Key to this to me is issues of labour as well as material and social sustainability. I co-wrote “Robotic Building: Architecture in the Age of Automation” (Detail Edition 2019) and the SPACE10 report “The Digital in Architecture: Then, Now and in the Future” (2019), both of which are now core readings for architecture students studying computation and automation all over the world. Informing my approach at AUAR is my background as an educator and activist, having been involved for many years in environmental, housing and maternal rights activism. Alongside AUAR, I am an Associate Professor at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, where I co-direct the award-winning AUAR Labs, which won Architect Journal’s Social Sustainability Award in 2021. I previously have also been an inaugural Visiting Professor at the Cluster for Excellence Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture at the University of Stuttgart and was faculty at the AA School of Architecture. I studied architecture at Pratt Institute in New York City and architecture theory in London, where I graduated from the Architectural Association. I am a practising birthkeeper and a Community Elder for Doulas Without Borders, where I advise and support our volunteers in providing care to the most vulnerable birthing people in UK society. I am mother to two small kids, and in my spare time can be found working with my hands in a community allotment. I live in Bristol, UK.
