‘Gap filler’ job post travelling and pre starting my permanent fulltime career for the NHS in November. This job was fulltime over 3 months and my main duties were as an assistant to the manager of the cooked meats room, operating slicing and packaging machinery for various cooked meats such as salami, charcuterie, and ham. Other tasks undertaken include curing hams, labelling and boxing packs, and glazing orange/honey mustard hams for cooking. Final task of the day was always a thorough clean down of the room to ensure safe food production.

Large variety of jobs undertaken including grain and potato carting with an AJP/Bailey trailer and JD 6155R Select, bale carting with a 30ft and 40ft Arctic trailer and JD 6155R Select, soil sampling for lime, counterbalance forklift and JCB telehandler driving, operating grain drier and drying sheds, seed cleaning, prepping potato and grain stores, potato grading, helping with the indoor pig unit, giving a hand during shearing and worming/vaccinating with the 400-head sheep business.Every morning spent on the 2000-head bed and breakfast pig unit mucking out, bedding down and checking for any problems. Afternoon checks carried out as well. Help given during slap marking and loading pigs onto lorries.During term time in my final year I occasionally went back to the farm to help with potato carting, vaccinating piglets, looking after the pig unit while the manager was away etc.

University sandwich year placement undertaken working alongside the shepherd at Greenwood Farm as a trainee shepherd. Roughly 2000 head of cross-bred sheep including Blue-Faced Leicester, Suffolk, Texel and Welsh Mountain grazed on the Cheshire salt marshes. Fortnightly gathering done from the marsh alongside the shepherd and his dogs. Very regular foot trimming to cope with the persistent foot rot problem as well as help during worming, vaccinating, dosing etc. 6 weeks in March/April on day shifts lambing 1500 of the flock indoors alongside vet students with some responsibility over the shed. Also some light machinery work on a front loader for moving bales etc.

From the ages 15-18 I worked part time on the weekends and during the holidays in my local carehome in Suffolk. My job role spanned all areas including getting residents out of bed and washed at the start of the day, assisting with all meals, toilet visits throughout the day, laundry and general cleaning, walks in the grounds with the residents and assisting with washing and putting to bed at the end of the day. Towards the final few months I also started to work on the dementia ward which involved additional training. This role was very sensitive and I had to learn to present myself in different ways around various residents to suit their personality, as well as dealing with bereaved residents and/or families when death occurred in the home.
