Student Worker In Archives Department

500 College Hill, Liberty Mo

As a student worker in the archives, I worked on cataloging a specific collection of books, dating from the 1700s to 1950s, which was donated to the college. I took information about each book like the title, author, publication date, and call numbers and entered it into archiving software. I worked primarily on my own, managing my own hours, times, and progress. I finished what management expected me to get done before the end of the semester ahead of schedule and started on data entry for the items that I had cataloged. Unfortunately, student workers cannot work past the end of the semester.

Reception Technician/ Designated Trainer

Independence, Mo

CSL Plasma is a plasma donation center that uses the plasma it receives to make medications. In my job as a reception technician, I ask the initial and follow up health related questions to returning donors to ensure suitability for plasma donation for that day and take the donor's vitals, which include blood pressure, pulse, and temperature. I use lancets and capillary tubes to obtain a blood sample, then use a centrifuge to separate the sample and measure the hematocrit level as well as use a refractometer to read the sample's protein level. We follow all health, Bio-hazard, FDA, OSHA, etc. protocols. I am also crossed trained to take in new plasma donors where, in addition to above, I put the donor's demographics into our computer system, assign payment cards and teach them about the process. I am the first employee that the donor will encounter thus I explain all rules, protocols, safety issues, etc.to the donor as well as answer any questions that they may have. As a Designated Trainer, I teach both new and senior employees to perform these job duties efficiently and effectively, as well as informing them of any updates or changes in policies and procedures.
