Students for Barack Obama, founded in the summer of 2006, began with a few students using Facebook to petition Senator Obama to run for President in 2008. The passion and dedication of thousands of students has transformed that movement into the official student organization of Obama for America — and one of the largest grassroots student organizations in history. At UC Berkeley, we mobilized student Support for Obama, registered voters, provided support at Obama fundraisers and rallies, built Coalitions with other Bay Area Obama supporter Groups, and organized trips for over 500 student volunteers to swing states for Obama campaign in days leading up to the election. Personally, I lead the canvassing training team for 500 man the June 2006 Oakland Precinct walk.

CalPIRG is part of the nationwide network of PIRGs, or Public Interest Reserach Groups, which train, empower and connect student activists from campuses across California. CalPIRG runs statewide campaigns on both social and environmental issues, including higher education affordability, climate change, public transportation, health care, hunger and homelessness amongst others.As Chapter Chair, I planned chapter meeting agendas and ran meetings, trained incoming interns, organized our fund-raising drive, while heading up two campaigns, 1) Get out the Vote and 2) Higher Education Affordability.Get out the Vote:As coordinator, I devised campaign strategies, coordinated and trained volunteers to register young voters through tabling and door canvassing. We registered over 1,500 new voters.Higher Education:We created a UC Berkeley Student Debt Yearbook 2006-2007, a compilation of personal stories of Cal students with debt and used it as a lobbying tool in meeting with Barbara Boxer's office on behalf of UC students.
