OIC serves the community with job training, skill building, and certificate programs. As a non-profit organization, OIC enables their clients to develop previously untapped talents, advance into new career paths, and otherwise improve their lives.Project Employment is specifically designed to provide services and support for previously incarcerated persons trying to find jobs.As the Project Employment Intern, I follow the employment counselor in her everyday tasks. These tasks include doing intake appointments, handling bus passes and transportation to employment opportunities for clients, resume creation, and general job-finding skills.

Hearing Youth Voices is youth-led, action research group focused on youth experience in schools in New London. HYV does workshops for youth to learn the actual policies in place in their schools, and it also creates community events to raise awareness about the injustices and policy flaws in the school system.My position entailed researching statistics surrounding in-school arrests, discipline, credit loss, and various other topics related to student push-out and lack of achievement. I created fact sheets, info grams, and events about these topics. Additionally, I presented Restorative Justice practices as a solution to these various issues in a fact sheet and ultimately community event. I also did grant writing and fundraising for the organization.

• Helped 20+ guests apply to jobs and learn computer skills such as email, web browsing, & Microsoft Word; created targeted resumes for guests, conducted mock interviews, and assisted in finding transport and choosing appropriate interview attire• Led creation and rollout of intimate support group for previously incarcerated guests; facilitated discussions of past experiences and developed concrete job search plans that aligned skills with long-term interests• Directed team of 7 in organizing fundraising walk; resulted in 400+ participants and $15K raised, surpassing $10K target

As a community collaborations fellow, I work on a variety of sustainability projects that connect the campus community and the New London area community. These include creating events about different sustainability topics in collaboration with on-campus or off-campus organizations, facilitating workshops for local schools on sustainability, coordinating with local business owners to beautify the city, etc. Currently, I am working with United Way, FRESH New London, LedgeLight Health District and the public schools in New London County to create a map of and working guide for school gardens in the county.

As an associate, I had various projects I worked on simultaneously to further sustainability initiatives at Connecticut College and in the New London Area.Some example of my projects:Brought an energy-saving home improvement company to campus for staff and faculty information sessionsCoordinated with local business owners to create a student group on campus the coming semester to participate in community beautification projectsSet up a collaboration between Connecticut College and the local Community Meals Center, where in CC will donate all unused, untouched food from dining halls to the Community Meals Center.Analyzed and compiled data from a campus-wide course survey on sustainability in the classroom, and then used the data to create a faculty workshop model for incorporating sustainability to the curriculum of every discipline
