  • Jarts
Program Manager- Be The Change - A Jewishly Inspired Social Justice Movement
    Jarts Feb 2022 - Present
    Newton, Massachusetts, United States
Working closely with the JArts leadership team and project visionaries Ruth Messinger and artist Caron Tabb, I am managing Be the Change, now in its third year. Created by the Jewish Arts Collaborative, this public art project launched in August 2022 in the Fenway area. Be the Change is an art and activism initiative inspired by the Jewish tenet of justice, drawing on the symbolism of the Jewish Tzedakah box. The project features seven large 'justice vessels,' or Tzedakah boxes, each designed by a different artist and centered around a specific social justice theme.Taking place in Boston, Cincinnati, LA, and online, Be the Change connects viewers to pressing issues of injustice and empowers them to become agents of change. Through the fusion of art and action, the project aims to engage the community-at-large, lowering barriers to participation and enabling everyone to take tangible steps toward addressing critical social justice issues. By collaborating with community organizations, we aim to root these works in real-world challenges, inspiring meaningful engagement and action.

The Ruderman Synagogue Inclusion Project is a partnership between Combined Jewish Philanthropies and the Ruderman Family Foundation. My work supported synagogues in creating communities where people of all abilities are valued equally and participate fully in Jewish life. A major focus of this work has been on mental health inclusion. I have grown the Ruderman Synagogue Inclusion Project from 3 to 40 synagogues and have helped over 35 synagogues start mental health initiatives. I worked with Rabbis, lay leaders, boards and community leaders to offer educational programs, forums and workshops to help synagogues move their inclusion agendas forward.I created compelling and large community events and workshops that highlight a variety of critical issues such as destigmatizing mental health and disability justice. Events have included Professor Kay Redfield Jamison and former Senator Tom Harkin.
