I have recently volunteered to be the Course Representative for the PGCE Primary Education full-time cohort. The main responsibilities of the role are to collect student feedback about the course and placements from other students, formulate a report using the feedback, and then report back any feedback during termly meetings with the course staff.

As an Outreach Ambassador, I worked with members of the CenSCE (Centre for Student and Community Engagement) team to deliver activities both virtually and in-person to children and young people from Year 6 up to first-year university students from the final school summer term through to mid-September. I have worked on projects such as:- Summer Block school visits to campus. - NTU Navigate summer school to help local refugee and asylum-seeking pupils with their English language skills.- The Wells Academy induction day to help the year 7 cohort settle into their first year of secondary school.- NTU Welcome, which aimed to welcome first-year students to NTU through a range of social and academic events.- Inspiring Leaders Conference 2022 where I greeted staff and students on arrival to the university, ran 30-minute campus tours and also assisted with the facilitation of groups moving to and from break-out activities.

The role of Primary Learning Advocate is part of Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham's Students in Classrooms program. I have undertaken three placements in two local schools. During my placements at the first school, I visited the school weekly to provide Year 6 pupils with 1:1 reading support. It was essential for me to be a positive role model and have a positive attitude toward reading to support pupil attainment and encourage an interest in reading. Over the course of both placements; I was confidently able to ascertain where each child needed support and tailored help accordingly by focusing on key aspects of reading (such as using inference, providing synonyms/antonyms, and working on phonics). After completing the required 10 weeks of my placement at the second school, I chose to continue my sessions on a voluntary basis. I have been working with year 3 and have taken more of an active role in the classroom, helping with behaviour management, supporting small groups of learners as well as reading 1:1 with learners.

My main responsibility within the CERT Student Mentor role was to provide support and advice to 9 first-year History students by communicating regularly through email, Microsoft Teams, and face-to-face meetings. Within the role, I also liaised with the students´ personal tutor and the CERT team to organise meetings and tailor support. Another aspect of the role was to provide broad support to first-year students across the School of Arts and Humanities by running social events to meet new people. I have worked with other mentors to plan and organise a quiz about 2021.

In this role, I provided in-class support in schools in Nottingham working predominantly with learners aged 2-5 years old. The role required me to have excellent communication and adaptability skills as I was working in different schools and different age groups each session.

As part of my degree, I was required to undertake a 37-hour placement. I chose to work in a primary school to support my progression into teaching by gaining more experience with working in a classroom. During this placement, I worked flexibly with a different year group each week and provided classroom support, 1:1 support, and group support in a variety of subjects. I helped to set up activities, prepare resources each day, and tidy the classroom ready for the next day. I also had the opportunity to run activities such as spelling tests, taking the register, and helping run a science experiment.

My role as a Despatch Assistant required me to work closely with the dispatch team to quickly and carefully prepare kitchens for delivery while adhering to extremely strict deadlines. I handled both paper copies and the company’s FileMaker software to ensure that all items were ready for delivery. I also liaised with the office staff to accept and document incoming deliveries while the company transitioned to new premises and a dedicated purchasing department was created.
