  • Goodwill Industries International
    Financial Wellness Program Manager
Goodwill Industries International Jul 2015 - Jun 2016
    Rockville, Maryland, Us
I designed Goodwill Industry International’s financial wellness initiatives, assisted Goodwill members in adopting financial wellness metrics, and engaged internal and external entities to leverage effective practices for greater impact in financial wellness activities.Goodwill Industries International is a network of 164 local organizations, which I supported with training and technical assistance for financial wellness initiatives. I understood and communicated the resources available at the national level, listened to feedback from organizations in the field about their experience, and responded to members' concerns and goals with suggestions that fit their needs. Special Projects: The annual Centers of Excellence program recognized exceptional Goodwill members for their work supporting families and help them succeed. Each of 3 Centers of Excellence received a $5,000 award to recognize their efforts, and attended a program at Goodwill Industries International's Spring Conference. The Poverty Simulation is a kinetic learning experience to educate attendees about the challenges those living in poverty face in trying to succeed. It was developed by the Missouri Association for Community Action and is used by community organizations to bring together poverty alleviation stakeholders, including nonprofits, local legislators, and service providers. • Goodwill Industries International
    Myfreetaxes Program Specialist
Goodwill Industries International Nov 2013 - Jun 2015
    Rockville, Maryland, Us
  • United States Senate
Staff Assistant, Travel Coordinator, Committee On Appropriations
United States Senate Jun 2009 - Oct 2013
    Washington, District Of Columbia, Us
The most rewarding part of my job was teaching people. I enjoyed explaining the legislative process to members of the public, the byzantine travel process to committee staff, and the best practices I had collected over the years to new Senate and committee staff. For the full committee I processed staff travel requests, including member to member correspondence and external correspondence to executive branch agencies. For international travel, I worked with the State Department to ensure the appropriate funds were authorized in embassies around the world and that those funds were accounted for upon our travelers' return to the United States. Quarterly, I prepared an international travel expense report for inclusion in the Congressional Record, in compliance with the Congressionally mandated reporting requirement. For 3 subcommittees, I coordinated hearing logistics, member directed spending requests, and hearing records. Hearing logistics included official notices, witness invitations, collection and distribution of witness testimony, day-of location management, and interface with the court reporter. I edited transcripts of hearings for the permanent record, incorporated Outside Witness Testimony, and distributed and tracked Questions for the Record submitted by Senators to federal witnesses after hearings concluded.
  • United States Senate
Rooms Coordinator, Committee On Rules And Administration
United States Senate Oct 2007 - Jun 2009
    Washington, District Of Columbia, Us
At the Rules Committee I evaluated requests from 100+ Senate offices to use 15 event rooms for official business. This involved reviewing requests to ensure that they complied with Senate rules for room use, and coordinating reservation logistics in the Senate Office Buildings and Capitol. I met staffers' needs through collaboration with the Senate Superintendent's Office and occasionally had to bear the bad news that an event needed to be canceled or moved to make space for legislative business. The Capitol Visitor Center opened in 2008, adding 10 new rooms to our reservation system shortly after an upgrade to our proprietary room request software went live. I enjoyed working with the Sergeant at Arms to develop the software based on my experience to create a more clear room reservation process for all involved. My position on the Rules Committee offered the opportunity to serve the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration.
  • National 4-H Council
    Program Assistant
    National 4-H Council May 2007 - Sep 2007
    Washington, District Of Columbia, Us
At 4-H I was the liaison for several groups with competing interests and knowledge. I worked with with chaperones, students, and support personnel during visits to Washington, DC from across the country to ensure safe, enjoyable, educational summer trips. Junior High and High School students in my group learned about the US Congress, culminating in a weekly mock congressional session I designed with a co-lead. After the Citizenship Washington Focus program concluded, I interned for the Development Department, then the Marketing Department. As an intern I researched potential donor prospects to prepare profiles for the development team, designed appealing demographic maps, and supported staff on other projects.
