Molly Hicken is serving her third elected term as Cook County Attorney. As the Cook County Attorney, Molly Hicken is the lead prosecutor and law enforcement official for the county and is also responsible for advising the Cook County Board of Commissioners, other county officials, all county department heads; along with ancillary government bodies such as county zoning-related boards, the Cook County Soil & Water District, and the Airport Commission. Molly has sixteen years criminal trial experience, including handling jury trials for serious domestic violence related offenses, sex offenses, and murder. She has defended many convictions at the appellate level by drafting and filing appellate pleadings and making oral arguments to both the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the State of Minnesota. Her experience also includes child protection law, commitments of those experiencing mental illness and/or chemical dependency, tax court, child support enforcement, and administrative appeals,Molly Hicken is a passionate supporter of treatment courts, having participated in the founding of the Shore Substance Use Recovery Court. She is a founding member of the advisory council for the Cook County MN Restorative Justice Program. As part of county leadership, she has helped to facilitate relationships between local government and the U.S. Forest Service, the Grand Portage Tribe, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, and others. Hicken serves as the current (2024) president of the Minnesota County Attorney's Association and is a member of the Advisory Council for the Rural Justice Collaborative (Nat'l Ctr. for State Courts). She has previously served Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison as a member of his transition committee, was appointed by Governor Tim Walz to the Community Competency Restoration Task Force, and has worked with the Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court as part of 2022 and 2024 efforts of the Statewide Safe & Secure Courthouse Initiative Workgroup and Grants Advisory Panel.
