Assistant Clinical Psychologist (Split Post: Project Development, Trauma Service, Camhs)
I work under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist to undertake several service development projects across psychological professions. Primarily, I work alongside the Associate Psychological Practitioner Workforce Team to evaluate and promote the role within Primary Care Settings. In addition, I have led an evaluation of an Expert by Experience Steering Group, supported updating the governance documents for the Psychological Professions Network and contributed to updating the BPS Guidance on Activity for Clinical Psychologists. I also co-facilitate a Pre-Qualified Psychology Group for aspiring psychologists within the trust. This involves putting on monthly CPD presentations online for staff who have an interest in pursuing a career in psychology. In addition to monthly online meetings, we organised and ran a face-to-face event with presentations and workshops.In this additional role I work at the Traumatic Stress Service Team under direct supervision of a Senior Cognitive Therapist. In this role I provide psycho-educational preparatory sessions to individuals on the waiting list for trauma therapy. These sessions aim to educate clients about what trauma is, the effects of trauma, and aims to build client skills in managing trauma symptoms in preparation for participating in trauma therapy (EMDR/CBT).For 15 months I also worked on an honorary basis with Children’s Psychological Services. In this role I supported assessment, formulation and intervention, including being a part of the triage team discussing acceptability of referrals into the service. In particular I worked with young people who are managing anxiety, phobias and OCD. As part of this I delivered CBT-OCD and ERP interventions. In addition to this I also supported the care of young people by completing school observations and co-facilitating workshops for parents of neurodiverse children and school/exam anxiety. I also delivered training to external teams about working with young people.
Research Assistant
I worked under the supervision of Dr Hannah Butler-Coyne on a project exploring Self-Harm Measures for adolescents.My main role in the project was conducting a literature review and meta-synthesis of current self-harm and suicide measures in circulation. Through my work I have developed my qualitative research skills and increased my proficiency in SPSS and PRISMA methodology. Additionally I have communicated progress and aims of research with Experts-by-Experience group and reflected on feedback given in meetings with fellow researchers.
Occupational Therapy Helper
This role was based within the Occupational Therapy Team at The Harbour in Blackpool. My role was to support the OT Team within the Older Adult Wards. This involved engaging patients them in activities such as exercise and board or trivia games, and supporting assessments they might need in order to be discharged, these assessments might include kitchen, home and community assessments. I also provided a level of emotional support through speaking with patients and being a listening ear for them if they have any concerns that I can then report up to nursing staff, psychologists and consultants with the patients consent.
